How Dr. Andrew Jacono Uses Surgical Skill as a Tool for Global Good

Dr. Andrew Jacono built one of the most recognized facial plastic surgery practices in the United States. His Park Avenue clinic draws patients from across the country, and his academic appointments and surgical training programs carry influence throughout the field. But alongside that career, he has maintained a commitment to humanitarian work that has brought reconstructive surgery to hundreds of children and domestic violence survivors who would otherwise have no access to it.

The Philosophy Behind the Practice

According to Dr. Andrew Jacono, technical mastery in cosmetic surgery carries an obligation to serve beyond affluent patient bases. That philosophy took shape early, when a young Jacono was in medical school and observed how surgery transformed the life of a girl with a cleft lip and palate who had been marginalized by her classmates. Her social and physical transformation left a lasting impression that would define his approach to medicine.

Dr. Jacono has since channeled that conviction into two sustained humanitarian efforts. Internationally, he leads surgical missions to developing countries, where children born with cleft lips, palates, microtia, and other facial deformities face both medical need and deep social stigma. He works with organizations including Healing the Children, the HUGS Foundation, and THAI Children, typically completing two missions per year. His travels have brought him to Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, Vietnam, and elsewhere. More than 750 children have received care through these efforts.

Training the Next Generation

Dr. Andrew Jacono’s influence also extends through education. As Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and through his positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and North Shore University Hospital, he trains fellows and medical students not just in surgical technique but in the broader responsibility that comes with specialized skill. His goal is to shape surgeons who understand that their expertise reaches beyond the patients who can afford to pay for it.

His domestic work, which includes providing pro bono reconstructive surgery to victims of domestic violence through the FACE TO FACE program, adds another dimension to that commitment. For Dr. Jacono, humanitarian service and clinical excellence are not competing priorities but complementary ones. See related link for more information.
